Nim was orphaned in the area of the Demon Wastes. He was adopted and apprenticed to the Sar’malaan (“Spiritual Leader”) of the Vaanka Clan of the Orks of the Ghaash’kala, and learned of the Kalok Shash (“Binding Flame”). As a youth, Nim was visited by a vision of Tira Miron (“the Voice of a Silver Flame”) that spoke of the inherent nobility of the Clan’s oath to fight the Evil of the Wastes. This epiphany convinced him to take on the mission of the Avenger and join in the Clan’s sworn oath to prevent Evil from escaping from the Demon Wastes.

While on a particularly dangerous patrol to purge an area of the Northern Labryinth, he witnessed an act of cowardice by the son of the Kizshmit (“Military Leader”) of the clan. On the return the Kizshmit wanted a recounting of the action. All but Nim kept the Son’s secret. The Son accused Nim of lying and demanded the apology be in blood. The contest didn’t last long. With the coward dead at Nim’s feet, the Sar’malaan pronounced that the “Flame” had shown the truth of it. The Kizshmit reluctantly agreed and said that his son had brought shame upon him and the Clan.

The Sar’malaan and the Kizshmit conferred, and decided that it might not be safe for the other clan members to have a daily reminder of that shame and sent Nim out of the Demon Wastes to destroy Evil where he found it. Nim was halfheartedly admonished to return one day to rejoin the Clan, but, while no one spoke the word, the result was the same, Banishment.

So Nim went out into the world following the “Burning Beacon which calls warriors to their sacred duty to battle Demons and Monsters”, and keeps his Oath to defeat Evil wherever he finds it.
